08:09 am on 29 May 2004

Security has been strengthened in Fiji ahead of a meeting of Commonwealth ministers for women's affairs.

More police and military personnel are being deployed to Fiji's Nadi International Airport and the Sheraton Denarau Resort nearby.

More than 1-hundred police officers and an unknown number of troops have been moved in a precautionary measure against terrorist attacks.

1-hundred and 35 delegates from 36 Commonwealth countries will be present for the meeting which, among other things, will discuss how to increase women's input into governance.

It will also try to develop a model on which to base the relationship between governments and civil society.
