16:32 pm on 24 April 2008

Voting has ended in Tonga in the election of the nine people's representatives in the 30-member parliament.

67,000 ordinary citizens had the right to vote today.

150 polling booths opened this morning and supervisors in rural areas say the turnout was average.

First results are expected tonight.

The nobles held their election for their nine seats yesterday.
