A tourism board in Papua New Guinea's province of New Ireland has expressed concern about the reported use of dynamite during fishing within Kavieng Harbour and the neighboring Tigak Islands.
The board chairman, Leo Badcock, says that such activities are not in the best interest of tourism, especially when the diving season is at its peak.
Divers have reported the use of dynamite by local youths at Ral Island, a popular dive, surf and snorkelling spot.
Mr Badcock said that diving was already a major attraction in New Irleand and was becoming one of the leading tourism activities in the province.
