19:39 pm on 7 September 2009

The United States agency the Federal Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Chinese woman in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas for alleged involvement in a scam to buy U.S. Social Security cards.

The cards were apparently to be used to help illegal immigrants establish bona fides identities on the US mainland.

The FBI arrested Yingzi Xu a month ago but the indictment was only lodged in the U.S. District Court for the Northern Marianas last Thursday.

She had allegedly purchased 165 of the cards from an undercover FBI agent, paying just over 21 thousand US dollars for them.
