Fiji's education ministry has been slammed for its sacking of a teacher without giving him a chance to respond to an allegation.
The shadow minister, Mikaele Leawere, said the teacher allegedly slapped a child.
The child's parents then complained to the ministry, which fired the teacher immediately without investigation.
Mr Leawere said it was disconcerting that normal judicial processes were not followed, rather the permanent secretary unilaterally becomes judge and jury.
