The troubled New Zealand cricketer Jesse Ryder isn't simply turning up in India to collect his IPL pay cheque says his manager Aaron Klee.

Ryder's announced he's returning to cricket and fly out to India at the weekend to take up his contract with the Pune Warriors next week.

He was dropped from the Black Caps squad after breaking team protocol in Napier last month by drinking when injured and didn't play in the test series against South Africa.

The chief executive of New Zealand Cricket David White says Ryder has clear expectations on what's required to return to international cricket and playing in the IPL is a good first step.

Ryder's manager Aaron Klee says he and Ryder's psychologist will go to India to as part of Ryder's support crew.

He says Ryder isn't going to pick up the cash from his $150,000 contract which he says is modest by competition standards and a large part of that money will be spent paying for his support team while he's in India.

The leading IPL players earn over two million dollars a season.
