Fixing leaky Middlemore Hospital has so far cost more than $27 million, with only one building partly finished.

RNZ revealed in 2018 the South Auckland hospital had six buildings full of rot and mould.

It was estimated then it might cost $120m to fix them and take five to 10 years.

So far, $27.5m has been spent on the Scott building.

This was "four months ahead of schedule and within budget", Te Whatu Ora / Health NZ said.

It was now looking around for a main contractor for the design-and-build job at the leaky Kids First building and McIndoe building.

It did not say how work was going at the Manukau Elective Surgery Centre.

"The remediation projects will be well managed with the required controls in place to proactively identify and mitigate risks to cost and time," a spokesperson told RNZ.

RNZ has asked for a detailed breakdown of costs compared to what was forecast, along with any recent reports on any other leaky hospital buildings in Auckland.
