Fiji's Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama, has appointed Mahendra Reddy as Minister for Waterways.
Dr Reddy, the country's former education minister, was found not guilty of one charge of bribery and one count of undue influence this month.
He was alleged to have offered a steady water source to a high school in exchange for a school manager's vote.
But at the Suva Magistrates Court, Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili said the state had failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Dr Reddy resigned from the ruling Fiji First party after the charges were first filed.
His appointment will take effect next Monday, following his swearing-in at Government House.
