French Polynesia vaccination law to be amended amid protests

06:02 am on 20 October 2021

French Polynesia's president Edouard Fritch says the territory's vaccination law will be amended as opposition to any form of compulsion continues.

Following weeks of protests against the law making Covid-19 vaccinations mandatory, some unions consider strike action.

Mr Fritch says changes may be discussed as soon as this week and would be aimed to clarify the importance of the vaccination.

My colleague Walter Zweifel listened into the president's announcement, kia ora Walter so is this a 180 degree turn from making vaccination mandatory for specific groups?
