Cycle network to be ripped up after bungle

16:07 pm on 22 August 2015

A Dunedin City Council bungle that will see parts of its $6 million cycle network ripped up this week has caused the council to change its communication systems.

The Council would start work removing traffic islands, and changing road markings in the network because of vehicles having problems getting down some narrow streets.

The remedial work was projected to cost $320,000 and would cause the entire scheme to go over budget, infrastructure services committee chair Kate Wilson said.

It was now expected to be completed towards the end of the year.

The incident had changed the way council departments communicate with each other internally, a council spokesperson said.

Public feedback had prompted the changes.
