The holiday road toll has climbed to four after two people died in a crash in Henderson in Auckland this morning.
Police said their vehicle smashed into a bridge on Triangle Road just before 6am.
Two others have been injured and the road remains closed.
Last night, two people died in a crash on Clevedon-Kawakawa Road southeast of Auckland, and a person was critically injured in a smash in Ōtāhuhu yesterday morning.
Police begged people to slow down, wear seatbelts and not drive when impaired or fatigued.
The holiday road toll is now at four - which is the same number as last year's entire road toll for the Christmas-New Year period.
The holiday period runs from 4pm on Christmas Eve, until 6am on 5 January.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old girl has died in Dunedin Hospital following a crash on State Highway One three weeks ago.
The teenager was critically injured in the crash south of Balclutha on 5 December.
Police say enquiries into the crash are ongoing.
