An Auckland driver is in critical condition after crashing into a pole on the Northern Motorway, causing heavy delays.
Two city-bound lanes are blocked near the Esmonde Road onramp, and traffic is heavy from Northcote.
The Transport Agency said motorists heading into the city should avoid the area if possible, and use the Onewa onramp to access the motorway.
