Dunedin City Council has unanimously backed a watered-down local alcohol policy.
The policy has been in development since 2014 and initially aimed to limit off-licence liquor outlets' hours to 9pm closing and a moratorium on new outlets in the student quarter.
An earlier plan to ban selling shots and a strict one-way door policy were scrapped following consultation in 2014.
The policy was appealed in 2015 by Hospitality New Zealand, Progressive - the owner of Countdown supermarkets - and Foodstuffs.
The new plan scraps the moratorium and allows for 10pm closing for off-licences.
It includes a 3am closing time for on-licence premises and a one-way door policy from 2.30am.
