Boys in court over crash that killed cows

15:55 pm on 24 March 2017

Four Northland teenagers are appearing in the Youth Court in Kaikohe today after a stolen car slammed into three cows on a country road.

Police arrested five boys yesterday after the car they were in hit cows being moved by a farmer near Kaikohe, then crashed.

The animals had to be put down.

Inspector Al Symonds said four of the boys, aged 14 and 15, spent the night in custody and the fifth, who had no previous police history, was released to his parents, to be dealt with by Youth Aid.

He said the four appearing in court today have also been charged with wilful damage, related to vandalism in Kaikohe last Friday night.
