Police say a man was shot at an adult entertainment club in Auckland in the early hours of Friday morning.

In a statement, Detective Inspector Chris Barry said emergency services responded to reports of a man with a gunshot wound at a Vincent Street address about 2am.

He was in a serious condition in hospital, he said.

No one has been arrested.

Barry said police would like to hear from any members of the public who could help with their ongoing inquiries.

"While the investigation is still in the early stages, we believe this is an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public."

Maher Aldhahri from Vincent Minimart, just down from the club, said he felt unsafe working there overnight.

"I'm very scared about this street, [it is] a little bit [of a] crazy street in Auckland. All the time crazy people here - some with guns, some with knives.

"I have [seen], before two months, a case like this one; someone came here in the shop with a gun and asked me to give him money."

The cordons were lifted from One33 club and police left the area on Thursday morning.

The club told RNZ it still plans on opening on Friday night, but could not make any further comment.
