The Wellington Phoenix have defeated the Western Sydney Wanderers 1-0 in a slippery A-League match at Eden Park.
Ben Waine scored the lone goal for the Phoenix mid-way through the first half with a sharp tap in from close range.
Western Sydney earned themselves a penalty late in the first half, but in dramatic fashion the penalty attempt was sent well wide of target when Steven Ugarkovic slipped over while striking the ball.
The second half saw consistent pressure from the visitors, hitting the goal posts on multiple occasions, but the Phoenix held on for a gritty victory.
Heavy rain in Auckland caused havoc on the match, with players slipping over throughout the contest.
The weather did not deter the fans from showing out however, with a healthy crowd of 15'245 cheering the Phoenix to victory.
The win takes the Phoenix to fourth on the A-League ladder with three regular season matches remaining.
