Officers arrested the 27-year-old yesterday and charged him with unlawful possession of a restricted weapon and threatening a person.

The charges stemmed from an incident at BP on Railway Esplanade in Gore on 4 June.

A police spokesperson said during the incident, the man was alleged to have presented a taser at another man, following a dispute between the two.

He was due to appear in the Invercargill District Court today.

An associate of the man, a 24-year-old Gore woman, was also arrested yesterday and charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop.

Those charges related to an incident in Invercargill on 5 June, when the woman allegedly fled from police.

She was expected to appear in the Gore District Court next Wednesday.

The spokesperson said the taser allegedly used by the man was not the same as those used by police and was believed to be a homemade device.
