English umpire denies retirement following test walkout

05:38 am on 9 December 2009

The English cricket umpire Mark Benson who mysteriously returned home during the just completed second Australia-West Indies test in Adelaide, says he hasn't quit his job.

In a statement issued through the International Cricket Council, Benson said he flew home to England after the first day's play because of health problems and not because he was frustrated by the new umpiring decision referral system.

The 51 year old former England batsman also withdrew from Australia's recent limited-overs tour of India, and he's agreed to undergo a series of medical tests.
