Anger in CNMI over full body scanners at airport

There's anger in the Northern Marianas over full body scanners installed at the Saipan international airport.

The senate floor leader Pete Reyes says he's shocked at the intrusive nature of the scanners put in by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

He says he doesn't have any problems with traditional scanners, emptying of pockets or putting items through x-ray machines, but a scanner that shows every part of a person's body is an invasion of privacy.

Mr Reyes says he intends introducing a resolution objecting to the use of the scanners at CNMI airports.

But the acting governor Eloy Inos thinks there's no malicious intent.

He says the scanners are for the safety of the travelling public.

Mr Inos says the debate on the matter is healthy and beneficial and the people will realise they're needed to ensure safety.
