Sarah Carter's father believes the truth will emerge

The father of a young New Zealand woman who died suddenly in Thailand says he's growing more confident by the day that the truth will emerge about the case.

Thai police are investigating the death of Sarah Carter, as well as the deaths of a British couple and a Thai tour guide. All of them stayed at the Downtown Inn in Chiang Mai during February.

Local health authorities, and now the World Health Organisation are also looking into the deaths in Chiang Mai of two other foreign women, from the United States and France.

Chiang Mai's governor says the deaths are nothing more than coincidence.

But New Zealand Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully, who last week ordered a New Zealand report into the investigation of the deaths, says the comments by Thai authorities are less than convincing and further investigation of the deaths is needed.

Ms Carter's father, Richard Carter, says final answers could take months but they are important for those travelling to Thailand.

"I'm growing more confident by the day," he says. "I think the ability of the Thai people to cover up is becoming a lot less, and there are some very concerned parties out there for the sake of the tourists of many other countries travelling into Thailand."

Mr Carter says he will not be surprised if further deaths are uncovered.
