New Australian owner Nine Entertainment is passing it on following its merger with the publisher's former owner, Fairfax Media.

Stuff chief executive Sinead Boucher said it was business as usual for the company and its staff while the sale proceeded, and she was confident it would attract a buyer.

"We're an attractive business with strong assets and have no reason to be worried about potential buyers," Ms Boucher said.

Nine officially merged with Fairfax in December.

Stuff, which publishes newspapers including The Dominion Post and The Sunday Star Times and the Stuff website, was one of Fairfax's poorest performing business divisions.

Its profit fell 27 percent last year and has declined steadily over the past three years, financial statements showed.

The business made $A37 million before tax in the 2018 financial year, down from $A52m the previous year.

Revenue followed the same downward trend, shedding 8 percent last year.
