An Auckland man who is recovering from surgery and dreading the prospect of returning to a home without power has been allowed to stay at hospital for up to two more nights.
Paul Hollands had emergency surgery yesterday.
His house in rural Kumeu has been in blackout conditions since the storm last week Tuesday.
He was to be discharged from North Shore hospital today, but has been told there's room for him to stay there.
Mr Hollands said he was extremely relieved.
He said his landlord had told him Vector was currently working on repairs at his house, and he could have power back either later today or tomorrow.
Meanwhile Vector says there are still hundreds of properties without power.
It said there had been dozens of new jobs logged since last week and it was currently working through them too.
