PNG revokes two new envoys

17:05 pm on 26 August 2011

Two Papua New Guinea envoys have had their new appointments revoked.

Lucy Bogari was named as PNG's next high commissioner to Australia in June and the current high commissioner Charles Lepani was appointed as PNG's next ambassador to the Americas.

The Pacnews Agency reports both were to begin their new postings last month but they have been withdrawn.

It is believed Ms Bogari would have been the first female PNG high commissioner in Canberra.

Senior PNG bureaucrats have been quoted as saying it is unprecedented for such appointments to be repealed once public announcements had been made.
