The Hurricane is currently a Category 3 storm, with winds as high as 190km/h at its centre.

The United States Central Pacific Hurricane Centre said it was expected to weaken slightly in the next couple of days.

Huge swells from the storm, however, could be expected tonight on the Big Island and Maui.

Hurricane Lane formed last week and entered the Central Pacific yesterday as a Category 4 storm.

It is forecast to pass south of Hawaii but the state is still likely to be affected.
