17:11 pm on 8 June 2015

Work will start this week on repairs to a major slip on State Highway 12, through the Waipoua Kauri Forest in Northland.

The highway has been down to one lane since last October, when part of the road slumped into the river after heavy rain.

The Transport Agency said the repairs would be carried out in a way that protects the surrounding kauri trees but there will be traffic delays on the popular tourist route until the repairs are finished at the end of June.
