An aid worker in Kiribati says her research into child sexual abuse has found that child pornography is a problem.

The research is part of UN efforts to curb the sexual exploitation of children in the Pacific.

Maere Tekanene says the research did not uncover any evidence of child sex trafficking or sex tourism.

But she says there are instances of child pornography and exploitation, in the capital.

"With child pornography, it's, we didn't realise, is really becoming a problem. On consultations, with a lot of people on Tarawa island, we found there is pornography being carried out."
