Queen Street has been reopened after a gas leak shut down part of the central Auckland road on Thursday afternoon.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said they were called to reports of the smell of gas at The Strand arcade at 1.49pm.
"When crews arrived, it was found the smell was coming from the basement and there was a small fire."
The fire had been extinguished and the building was evacuated.
Nine fire crews were at the scene at its peak and the road was closed between Victoria Street and Wellesley Street.
All crew have left the scene and the road has reopened.
An Auckland Transport spokesperson thanked the public for their patience.
