Need for more builders likely

Stonewood Homes, one of the largest home building companies in the South Island, says it's likely that builders will need to be called in from other cities to help rebuild parts of Christchurch.

Managing director Brent Mettrick says the company met engineers on Monday morning to plan a strategy.

Because the foundations of many homes have been damaged by the earthquake, Mr Mettrick says they will have to be completely rebuilt.

He says the industry is more than capable of getting the job done.

Meanwhile, shares in listed construction companies rose sharply on Monday. Investors anticipate extra work to rebuild the Canterbury region.
