Feedback sought over parental leave

15:57 pm on 9 July 2014

The Government is calling for feedback on proposals to modernise parental leave.

In May's Budget, it announced an overhaul of parental leave with the aim of making it more flexible.

Labour Minister Simon Bridges said on Wednesday that more flexibility would allow primary carers who wish to remain active in the workforce to keep their entitlements.

The proposals outlined in the discussion document include extending the eligibility of paid parental leave to include primary carers other than parents, and enabling employees to take unpaid parental leave part-time.

Submissions close on the proposals on 25 August.
