England dumped out of World Cup

The England cricketers have been knocked out of the World Cup by a spirited Bangladesh who grabbed a quarter-final spot following a dramatic 15-run victory in a tight Pool A match in Adelaide, Radio New Zealand reports.

Put into bat, Mahmudullah struck Bangladesh's first World Cup century and starred in two key partnerships to lift Bangladesh to 275 for seven.

England made a decent start to their chase before losing their way in the crunch match. They go out in the group stages for the third time in five World Cups, while Bangladesh advance past the first round for only the second occasion.

England skipper Eoin Morgan said he was gutted, and there would be an inquest over the next few weeks as to what happened and what went wrong.

Bangladesh's victory also secured Sri Lanka's place in the last eight, alongside Pool A winners New Zealand and Australia.
