An Opotiki man has been charged with the murder of a woman in the eastern Bay of Plenty town on Monday.

The man, 27, who was arrested in Te Kaha, appeared in the Whakatane District Court today.
"We are pleased to have made this arrest so quickly and hope it will help the whānau and friends of the victim in some way," Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Standen said in a statement.
The police investigation was continuing in Opotiki and Te Kaha.
The victim is yet to be formally identified.
