Major quake rattles central Chile

A major earthquake hit has central Chile, shaking buildings in the capital Santiago and forcing residents to flee from their homes.

There have been no initial reports of injuries or serious damage on Monday, Reuters reports.

The magnitude 7.2 quake struck 103km west-north-west of the town of Talca at a depth of 10km.

The government initially ordered evacuations of some coastal areas as a precaution.
