One person has been arrested after a street fight in Wellington involving about 100 teenagers.
Police were called to Stoke Street in Newtown shortly before 11pm last night.
In a statement police said that when officers arrived, some of the teenagers began throwing cans and other items at them.
It took around 35 police to stop the fight and clear the area, they said.
Wellington City Councillor for the Southern Ward Fleur Fitzsimons said it is concerning and the council will look into how this sort of thing can be prevented in future.
"The community, and the police and the council, will be expecting answers.
"We will look into this matter and understand how it happened, and take every step possible to make sure that it doesn't happen again.
"People deserve to be safe in their communities, and this is unusual."
The arrested person has been charged with breaching the peace.
