Formal opening for Raglan wind farm

17:46 pm on 10 February 2011

The Prime Minister will officially opened New Zealand's newest wind farm near Raglan in Waikato on Thursday.

The 28 turbine wind farm is a joint venture between state-owned generator Merdian Energy and Waikato lines-company WEL Networks.

The wind farm will generate 64.4 megawatts of electricity, which is enough to power about 30,000 average homes.

Electricity was first generated from the $200 million project in November, eight weeks ahead of schedule.
