A person has died in the water at a popular beach in Mount Maunganui.
A police spokesperson said emergency services were alerted just before 8.20am after a person was pulled from the water at Pilot Bay Beach.
CPR was attempted but the person died at the scene.
Police were still trying to formal identify the person.
The incident occurred opposite The Mall, a short distance from Mount Maunganui / Mauao.
