A 53-year-old from Samoa's Solosolo village, Ututaaloga Fereti Leota, will spend the next 12 years behind bars for the rape of his 12-year-old niece.
In sentencing, Justice Tafaoimalo Leilani Tuala-Warren said the offence, committed in 2015, was a significant breach of trust on the part of Leota.
The judge said it was a concern that the rape took place in the home and was committed by a family member.
He said the sentence reflected the court's tough stance on this type of offending.
