New Zealand highjumper Hamish Kerr has won his event at the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm.

Kerr cleared 2.24 metres to win by 4cm over Belgian Thomas Carmoy.

Italy's Olympic champion, Gianmarco Tamberi could only reach 2.12m with three fouls at the 2.16m mark.

Kerr, 26, said the conditions were tough.

"But I am in really good form at the moment and I was hoping to jump really high today. I did not do that but I managed to jump higher than anyone else, so I will definitely take the win.

"The rain does not help but you have to fix it especially mentally because it is not so cold. At the end my legs were feeling a little bit too cold to continue. I think I am in PB shape - I was ready to try for the 2.33m," Kerr said.

The Commonwealth champion had a good mindset.

"I am very grateful to compete here and that I am healthy and that my family at home loves me and these are the things I really hold onto. I have a good life and some nice stuff so that is what I think of."

At the same meeting Geordie Beamish ran a personal best 8:17.63, to finish fourth in the 3000m steeplechase.
