Cyclone season could be early for Fiji

09:21 am on 7 October 2015

Fiji's weather service says the current el Nino weather pattern could mean Fiji experiences cyclones as early as October.

The cyclone season normally runs from November to April.

The Fiji Meteorological Service says differences in sea surface temperature are greater than the last el Nino period in 2002 and 2003 and the anomalies were still strengthening.

It says in an el Nino year the cyclone season seems to move forward and increase in frequency and strength.
