One child has died and nearly 500 people have become unwell in Kiribati over the past two months due to suspected dengue fever.
The country's Ministry of Health reported 472 suspected dengue cases since the outbreak began in late March and samples have been sent to a laboratory for testing.
Eighteen people in Kiribati have been hospitalised and a nine-year-old child has died from the mosquito-borne illness.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation reported there were ongoing dengue outbreaks in Fiji and Vanuatu but there was a significant decrease in the number of reported cases in American Samoa and Tonga.
Wallis and Futuna as well as New Caledonia have also been reporting dengue outbreaks over recent weeks.
New Zealand's foreign minister Winston Peters recently announced the country was to give $2.7 million ($US1.9 million) to help fight the dengue fever epidemic in Fiji.
The money would go to the World Mosquito Programme and its efforts to limit the ability of mosquitoes to spread the disease.
