The SDL party of the deposed and imprisoned Fiji Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase, says it is determined to carry on after a warning from the regime it might be closed down.
The warning comes after controversy surrounding a submission to the Constitution Commission which some Fiji media have attributed to the party and include policies such as calling for Fiji to be a Christian state.
The SDL denies it has decided on such policies and says there's a clear intent of painting an evil image of the party to foment racial discord.
A party official Mesake Koroi says there is a feeling of uncertainty among SDL supporters and officials after recent events but they will carry on.
"The incarceration of Mr Qarase, has sort of made the party more stronger, more determined to carry on with the legacy he has left behind. And hopefully we will be given that opportunity by the government so that we can continue to function."
Mr Koroi says the party is watching to see how free the consultation process is before making its submission which it hopes to present at the end of next month or early October.
