The Crown has dropped a charge against an Auckland man accused of killing his 11-month-old son, after a nearly year-long investigation.
Police arrested the man in November 2018 after an almost year-long investigation into the infant's death.
The man - who cannot be named - went to trial defending a manslaughter charge at the end of last year.
It ended in a hung jury and today prosecutor Henry Steele confirmed the Crown would not seek a retrial.
Justice Moore formally discharged the man - who is applying for permanent name suppression.
