Police have launched a homicide investigation over the death of a woman in Marewa, Napier.
They were called to a residential address on Nuffield Avenue about 4.25am after a woman was found unresponsive. She died at the scene, police said.
Police were working to locate a person who they believed was known to the victim.
They refused to say whether a weapon was involved, as they were at the "early stage of the investigation".
Police were at the scene this morning, some of them armed.
Despite rain, a small group had congregated on the street across the road from the property, just outside the cordon.
