Interim government forces in Libya say they have made significant gains in the battle for the city of Sirte, the hometown of ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi.
National Transitional Council commanders said on Sunday afternoon they had captured the main hospital, the university and a conference centre where pro Gaddafi fighters were mounting stiff resistance.
Heavy street fighting is continuing around the city centre.
A final assault on Sirte began on Friday. But the advance was reduced to fighting street by street by Saturday.
