The UK election has yielded a hung parliament in a shock result for Prime Minister Theresa May. Look back on RNZ's live coverage:

Key points

• Votes are still being counted but the Conservatives have been unable to win the 326 seats they needed for an overall majority.
• The BBC is predicting a final count of 319 seats for the Conservatives (down 12 on 2015), 261 for Labour (up 29 seats), 35 seats for the SNP (a loss of 21 seats), 12 for the Lib Dems (up four), Plaid Cymru gaining one with four seats, the Greens on one, UKIP on none and 18 seats to other parties.
• Mrs May has been to visit the Queen to seek authorisation and says she will now form a government with support from Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party who got 10 seats, up two.
• Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has urged Mrs May to resign.
