Taiwan, which is excluded from formal Pacific Islands Forum meetings at the behest of China, is nonetheless helping pay for the upcoming summit in Nauru.
Nauru is one of six Pacific countries that recognises Taiwan, and it has long been a beneficiary of assistance from Taipeh.
Taiwan is giving US$1 million dollars to Nauru to assist with the Forum summit and to pay for a meeting of the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Union, with both meetings in September.
The acting president David Adeang said to mark the country's 50th anniversary of independence the government had chosen to use the year to showcase the island.
