Return of Shield to Wellington to boost home crowd numbers

The Wellington Rugby Union expects the return of the Ranfurly Shield to the Capital will lure more fans to Westpac Stadium this weekend.

The Lions hold the "Log O' Wood" for the first time since 1982 after taking it off Auckland.

Wellington Rugby Union CEO Greg Peters says crowds of about 15,000 people have been at the stadium for their last two games.

But he says for Saturday's match against Tasman they expect crowd numbers will be well north of that.
