Ngai Tahu confirms investment in Agrodome

06:51 am on 16 August 2011

A Ngai Tahu company has confirmed it is investing in the Agrodome tourism operation at Rotorua.

The Agrodome features farming entertainment such as sheep shearing shows and dog demonstrations.

Ngai Tahu Tourism says it's making a significant investment, but is not disclosing how much.

It's done a deal with the owners of the Agrodome - Warren Harford and Paul Bowen.

The tribe says its involvement will compliment another of its investments in Rotorua, the Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park.

The company has set aside $10 million to redevelop the park, including building a high-tech ride and a reptile enclosure, which are due to be open early next year.

Rainbow Springs will continue operating while the work is being done.

Ngai Tahu Tourism chief executive John Thorburn says the company sees Rotorua as one of the key tourism regions.

He says it is well positioned to benefit from growing visitor markets - particularly tourists from Asia.
