French Polynesia's ruling party is set to seek the re-election of its two French Senate members who lost their seats this month.
Vincent Dubois and Teura Iriti were found to have been chosen under circumstances which the Constitutional Court said put undue pressure on the electors.
The Tahoeraa Huiraatira Party of Gaston Flosse has criticised the move, alleging a possible link to the party's call for France to pay compensation for damage caused by its nuclear weapons tests.
The pro-independence side is expected to again stand Tauhiti Nena and Richard Tuheiava, who had been a Senator in the previous term.
No date for the fresh election has been set but it is expected to be held in early May.
