Fiji's Ministry of Fisheries is warning people in Malau outside Labasa not to eat seafood after a chemical spill at the Forest Industry sawmill last week.
The Fiji Times reports white residue in the water outlet from the mill with concerns that the chemical may harm anyone who consumes fish near the area.
The Ministry of Environment said steps had been taken to contain the spill of a timber preservative from storage tanks but heavy rain in the area has hampered efforts to restricts chemical's spread.
