A South Dunedin man has been charged after a laser was shone into the cockpit of the Otago Rescue Helicopter.

The pilot called police about 1.45am today and guided officers to the laser's origin.
Police say a car took off from the address without its lights on before officers arrived.
The vehicle was stopped nearby and the driver admitted shining the laser at the helicopter.
A 33-year-old man will appear in Dunedin District Court next week.
